Kiss and Sell by Brittany Geragotellis

I was in a bit of a reading slump. The kind of slump where you dont want to even pick up a book and try to read. Well I finally forced myself to start Kiss and Sell, and then here was this sweet little book reviving my love of reading again. The entire time I was reading this I saw a made-for-tv movie of it in my head and let me tell you it would be fabulous! It’s smart and sassy; the kind of story that leaves you with the warm and fuzzies and maybe, just maybe, a little nostalgic for your own first kiss.

I loved Arielle Sawyer’s from the very beginning and watching her grow into self-confidence was a delight. While putting a first kiss up for sale on Ebay sounds odd and unsafe, if you suspend reality enough to get past that this book gives you so much more. Who doesn’t remember their first kiss or more appropriately the time before their first kiss when all you wanted to do was check that box off the bucket list? Also, Arielle has some kick ass friends and a disturbling cool and smart mother. There are mean girls, swoon worthy boys, and an empowering story of taking your life and fate into your own hands and growing into your confidence. Now that’s a story I can get behind. I highly recommend giving Kiss and Sell a try—-you just might fall in love all over again.

Overall: A

Suddenly, this former wallflower finds herself the focus of everyone’s attention. But as her popularity grows and her friendships start to weaken, Arielle begins to wonder why she put the post up in the first place. In the end there will be a winner, but will Arielle’s first kiss end up being everything she’s ever dreamed of?

Mermaids on Memorial Day

Tangled Tides (Sea Monster Memoirs #1)- Karen Amanda Hooper

Tangled Tides (The Sea Monster Memoirs, #1)

What’s a better read than a mermaid story for Memorial Day? Tangled Tides seemed like a good choice, but I’m not going to lie—-Tangled Tides was just okay for me. The first few pages I had no idea if it was a boy or a girl protagonist. Then Yara is like “hey let’s just run off with this stranger.” Did someone not teach her stranger danger? Cause for real, that’s just dumb.  After those initial problems, Tangled Tides rallied a bit with interesting world creation and mythology. As the story continued the entangled relationships seemed a bit confused for me. In the end, I was kind of just “meh” about it.  If you’re looking for a quick mermaid read for the beach then this hits the mark, just don’t expect much more than that.

Overall: B

Tangled Tides is out now and free for Amazon Prime users right now ($4.99 for other Amazon users).  Check it out here.

A Rant on Barnes and Nobles

Barnes and Nobles is currently holding my ebook hostage.

On Wednesday I purchased the fifth and last book in The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod: Twelfth Grade Kills by Heather Brewer.  I specifically chose an ebook because I wanted it immediately; I didn’t want to wait for it to ship; I didn’t want to drive 20 minutes away to a Barnes and Nobles; I wanted it right that second. I went with Barnes and Nobles’ ebook instead of Amazon’s because I already have the ereader app for B&N (and because Amazon has done some questionable stuff when it comes to publishing and ebooks).

I purchased.  I was charged.  I went to download and got a “our website is down for routine maintenance.” Fine, I’ll wait till tomorrow (Tomorrow currently being today.)  Today, I went to try to download it again.  I click the green download button, it goes grey like it is doing something, then nothing happens.  A few seconds later, the button goes green again. UH WHAT?  Click green, goes grey, goes green, does nothing.  Repeat.  My anger and frustration are growing.  I just want to read the book I paid for!
