The Interview:

Kate:
Hi Pietr.

Pietr:
Strahsvoytcha.

Kate:
When you first met Jessica in the guidance office in 13 to Life, you were rather quiet.  What were you thinking in that moment and while she showed you around school?

Pietr:
In the guidance office I was probably thinking what I am normally thinking if I am in a room with Max: How do I keep him from getting us in trouble, and how will I correct the damage he will inevitably do? While Jess showed me around Junction High I was trying to focus on my surroundings, but I kept wondering about her and looking at her whenever she wasn’t looking.

Kate:
You say deeds, responsibilities and actions make a man a man.  What has been the action that you are most proud of?  Your most shameful?

Pietr:
There was a time I made a big difference in a person’s life, but telling that story might make me sound arrogant… And I always hope the next action I take will be even better—even more important to someone else. My most shameful action? That is much easier to answer. This mess I am in with Sarah. There is no easy way out and no way that someone won’t wind up being hurt. But I’m afraid it is necessary. A necessary evil.

Kate:
So, in Secrets and Shadows it’s around Halloween, but here it’s Valentine’s Day.  What plans would you make for the evening if you were spending Valentine’s Day with Jess?  What would you get her?

Pietr:
I would take Jess somewhere special—not a restaurant or to the movies—but to a quiet place in the forest where the water pours from this hillside to become icecicles that sparkle nearly as brightly as her eyes. We would watch the moon rise and play in the snow before heading back home. As to what i would get her… I have already given her my heart. What else is there to give? Besides, Jess doesn’t like chocolates.

Kate:
Thank you, Pietr.

Pietr:
Puzhalsta. Dohsvehdawnya.

13 to Life

13 to Life by Shannon Delany

This debut novel changed my life. No, really, it did. I don’t really do well with scary things, and the only supernatural beings I could stand to read about without staying up all night too terrified to close my eyes was vampires. That is, until this book (in combination with Shiver) made me a (were)wolf girl. I loved the story of Jessica and Pietr so much so that I didn’t want it to end. The writing was clever and witty, realistic and riveting. I found myself actually smiling at the dialogue and the characters’ flirtations. The ending leaves a lot of questions open for sequels, and I don’t know if I will be able to bear the wait! Definitely pick up a copy of this book when its out this summer!

Soundtrack Song: Lady Antebellum, “American Honey”.

Overall: A+
